Partners In Crime -- Eve-Verse by ~WolfEmpress:iconWolfEmpress:

The Doctor walked into his and Eve's room, opened the closet, and yanked down his trenchcoat, the hanger swinging round and round the pole from the force of it all.

Eve exited the master bathroom, clad in a soft pink bathrobe, towel in hand, hair dripping wet.

She stared blankly at the Doctor, as he hurried around the room, seemingly flying, looking for various items with which to.... whatever. Eve sighed loudly.

He turned around, and gave her a grin. "Hullo!" He said happily, or so it seemed. Then he sobered. "---Something suspicious going on--- y'know that diet pill? Adipose?"

Eve shrugged. "Not really. Heard about it, but I don't need to diet, so I haven't heard that much."

The Doctor grinned. "No, certainly no need for dieting..." He trailed off, just looking at her. Then he clasped his hands together and declared, "Well, I'm off! Gotta be something going on there, and I'll find out what! Oh, you can come too, if you like... of course," he added, as an afterthought.

Eve crossed her arms. "I have to say, I'm shocked by your behaviour."

"Oh?" The Doctor asked, shocked. Then, almost as if he couldn't possibly fathom it, he added, "...Really?"

"Really!" Eve said, raising her voice and nodding emphatically, whilst gesturing wildly with her hands and arms. "I can't believe this! We're married!"

"I know, isn't it great?" The Doctor cried, grinning. He suddenly pulled Eve close for a very passionate, very short kiss, then pulled away equally as suddenly. "Well... you coming?"

Eve stared at him for a very long time. Finally, reluctantly, she answered him. "No."

"What? What do you mean, 'No'?"

"I mean 'No'," Eve replied, then looked away. "We haven't spent any real time together. At all. Ever. If you catch my drift."

The Doctor scratched his ear. "Ah.... and what.... what drift would that be, exactly?"

Eve stormed past the Doctor and into jher old room, slamming the door behind her.

"I..." He looked around him, then closed his eyes. He picked up the scanner on Eve's vanity, sighed, and said to himself. "I don't have time for this."

And with that, he left the TARDIS.

+++

The Doctor was outside Adipose Industries. He took out his sonic screwdriver, and forced the back door open, sending sparks flying.

When he passed a person on the way inside, he held his badge up, and said, "John Smith; Health and Safety."

+++

The Doctor walked into someone cubicle, inside Adipose Industries, dropped into a seat, and wheeled up to the woman who worked in the cubicle.

"Just Health and safety, don't mind me," he told her, waving his badge in front of her face as she spoke on the telephone to a potential customer.

He then picked up a small gold pendant in the shape of asn Adipose pill, and tucked it away inside his pocket, then set about politely demanding print-outs of all the Adipose customers.

Miss Foster came in, speaking about "trimming the fat" and whatnot. Then Doctor narrowed his eyes, and when she left, he turned back to the woman inside the cubicle.

"Aaaanyway, if you could print that off, thanks," he said. After it printed, then the Doctor stood, and said, "Thanks, then."

The woman handed him a scrap of paper, causing the Doctor to ask, "Ooh, what's that?"

"My telephone number."

"What for?"

The woman smiled slyly. "Health and Safety. You be Health... I'll be Safety."

The Doctor';s jaw dropped, in a mixture of shock and horror. "Ah... ah... about that-- I'm married - uh, well, see, can't, you see... paragraph 5, section c.... uh--- sorry," he said, not really sorry at all, and hurried away, to grab the list and leave that woman in the dust.

And passed right by Donna, neither one of them noticing the other.

+++

Meanwhile, back inside the TARDIS, the Doctor had neither seen nor spoken to Eve. As far as he knew, she was still in her old room.

So he decided to examine the pendant. He was staring at it through a magnifying glass, seemingly believing that Eve was inside the console room along with him, hanging on his every word, like she used to do so often.

"Oh, fascinating," he said, unaware that he was alone. "seems to be a bio-fit digital stitch specifically for---" He cut off, looking up to see if she was there.

But, alas, she wasn't there. He looked up, and she was no where in sight. He sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets. Then he stood, awkwardly, not knowing what he should do next.

+++

It was the next day, and he still hadn't seen Eve. He did, however, see a note on the console screen that read,

Feed the cat. Mozart has to be hungry. Also, change his litterbox, leave me alone, and don't talk to me unless you want to apologize. I will be staying in my old room again tonight. I hope you have nightmares and freeze.

Unfortunately, I still love you, though I am not sure why. I understand you have
things to do, but, if by tonight you are still behaving this way, then I will have no
choice but to visit my relatives until further notice.

Your WIFE,
Eve

PS: You had better feed Mozart.

He Doctor pulled off his glasses, tucked the note into his jacket pocket, sighed, and then something popped up on the screen. Apparently it had something to do with the Adipose problem, because next he was landing the TARDIS in an allyway.

Right beside Donna's car.

+++

The Doctor had snuck back into Adipose Industries, and hid out until past closing time. When he was certain that everyone was gone, he went to the roof.

Then, as he peeked inside a window, spying on Miss Foster, her two hit men, and their captive, he spotted Donna.

Who was gesturing madly, looking quite stupid, if the Doctor was honets, which he was, to a serious fault. His big mouth had gotten him in trouble more times than he could count, unfortunately, that was also something Eve reminded him of constantly.

Eve.

Uh oh... he'd be in trouble later!

+++

The Doctor, along with Donna - asd they were running away from Miss Foster - suddenly stopped mere feet from where she stood.

"Well then," Miss Foster said, taking off her glasses, "at last."

Donna waved limply. "Hello."

"Nice to meet you," the Doctor grinned, "I'm the Doctor!"

"And I'm Donna."

Miss Foster nodded curtly, than said, "Partners in crime," Donna and the Doctor shared a look, "and evidently off-worlders, judging by your sonic technology."

The Doctor started patting his jacket and pants pockets, eyes widening. "Oh yes!" he nodded, "I've still got your sonic pen! Nice - not as nice as the one I made for... erm," he broke off, remembering Donna was there, and continued, "I like it - sleek," he added, showing Donna, "It's sleek."

"Oh, it's definately sleek," Donna agreed.

+++

The Doctor began tossing things out of a closet, sending mops, brooms, and whatever else flying.

"She's got a computer running through the center of the building, triple dead-locked. But I've got this!" He grinned, holding up his sonic device.

+++

"You look older," Donna said.

The Doctor glanced at her. "Thanks," he replied, still fiddling with the computer  using his sonic screwdriver.

"Still on your own?" Donna asked.

"No," the Doctor replied. "Eve's still with me."

Donna nodded. "Oh yeah. Forget about her," she replied.

The Doctor sighed. "Look---ah...." he shook his head. "Eve and I..."

"Well, has been just you and Eve?"

The Doctor shrugged. "Well, no! We had this friend Martha, she was called. Martha Jones, she was brilliant. "And I destroyed her whole life. But she's fine, she's good." He paused. "She's gone."

"What about Rose?" Donna asked.

The Doctor glanced up at her. "Still lost," he said, then went back to what he was doing.

Donna was surprised at his lack of reaction.

"Thought you were gonna travel the world?" The Doctor asked her, shoving his sonic screwdriver into his pocket, and fiddling with the computer curcuits with his bare hands.

"Easier said than done." Donna went on to tell him about her trip to Egypt, and how it didn't quite work out as she had planned. "But it was nothing like being with you. I must've been mad turning down that offer," Donna finished.

"What offer?' The Doctor asked, reaching into his pocket for his sonic device again, and finding the note from earlier. He sighed, abviously feeling bad, then he smiled, remembering how happy Eve had made him.

Donna replied, "To come with you."

"To come with me?" The Doctor repeated, his mind whirling. How would he ever have a honeymoon with Eve now? That is, if she wanted to. Or, more accurately, if she'd forgive him.

Donna smiled, looking desperate. "Oh, oh yes please?!"

The Doctor, struggling for words, his mouth opening and closing a few times, shocked beyond reason and unsure what he should do or say, finally managed to choke out a, "...Right..."

+++

The Doctor and Donna were on the roof, watching as the baby Adipose floated up, inside the beams, to the nusery ship.

"Whad'ya gonna do then? Blow 'em up?" Donna asked.

The Doctor, incredulity spread across his features and in his voice, replied, "They're just children, they can't help where they came from."

"Oh," Donna continued, "well that makes a change from last time. That Martha must've done you good."

He nodded. "Ah, she did, yeah.... eh... she did." But really he was thinking about Eve, and how it was her who had opened his eyes. Then he sniffed and added, "She fancied me."

"Mad Martha, that one. Blind Martha; Charity Martha."

The Doctor looked at her, eyes narrowed just slightly, wondering exactkly what she meant by that, and what she would think when she found out that he was married.

Both began to wave, then Donna muttered, "I'm wavin' at fat..."

+++

The Doctor glamced at Miss Foster's sonic pen, laughed slightly and shook hsi head, then tossed it in the trashcan.

The captive reporter from earlier ran up, then, and cried, "You people are mad! You hear me? Mad! I'm I'm gonna report you for... madness!" And with that, she ran off.

"Some people just can't take it," Donna noted.

"Nope," the Doctor replied numbly, thinking about how angry Eve must be by now.

"But some people can," she added. "... TARDIS!" The Doctor stood there dumbly, so Donna dragged him off. "Come on!"

As they approached the TARDIS, each had different but equally powerful emotions. Donna felt more excited than she ever had before in her life, and the Doctor felt like a man on death rowm awaiting his execution.

Donna passed by her mother's car, and exclaimed, "That's my car! That is like... destiny!" She hurried to her trunk, and continued, "I've been ready for this. I packed ages ago...  just in case, 'cause I thought... 'hot weather', 'cold weather', 'no weather'!" She shoved the bags towards the Doctor and into his confused and stunned arms. "It goes anywhere! I've gotta be prepared!"

The Doctor looked at the hatbox now perched precariously atop Donna' many bags of luggage, and stumbled over his words, saying, "You got a... a... hatbox."

"For planet of the hats, I'm ready!"

Donna went on to say, "I don't need injections, do I? You know, like when you go to Cambodia? Is there any of that? 'Cause my friend Vita went to Baret---" She broke off, seeing the Doctor just staring at her, almost sadly. "You're not saying much," Donna added.

"No, it's just..." The doctor said, blankly, searching for words, "it's a funny odd life, in the TARDIS." Briefly the Doctor was reminded of some of the times he and Eve had shared, like flashes in his mind.

Donna's face fell. "You don't want me?"

"I'm not saying that," the Doctor said.

"But..." Donna said, at a loss, "you asked me."

The Doctor watched her, feeling bad, but felt even worse for what he had done to Eve.

"Would you rather be on your own?" Donna asked.

"No. Actually no. But... Donna... I'm not. I'm not on my own. I have Eve." He sighed, dropped Donna's bags on the ground, and soved his hands into his pockets. "The last time, with Martha, that set it. It got... complicated. And that was all my fault. I just want a mate," he finished, thinking of Eve.

Donna looked horrified and digusted. "You just want to mate?" She repeated, looking furious.

The Doctor repeated, "I just want a mate!"

"You're not matin' with me, Sunshine!" Donna shot back.

"I just want a mate. A mate!" The Doctor said again.

Donna stepped out of the front of the TARDIS. "Well, that's just as well, 'cause I'm not havin' any of that nonsense. You're just a non streak of nothing! Y'know, alien nothing!"

"Well, there we are, then," the Doctor agreed. "okay."

Donna looked stunned. "... I can come?!"

"Yeah. 'Course you can, yeah." Donna grinned, and so did he. "I'd love it."

"Car keys!" Donna cried.

"What?" The Doctor replied.

Donna continued, "I got my mum's car keys! I'll only be a minute!"

The Doctor began loading the bags in the TARDIS.

He walked inside, and found everything was quiet, but the gentle hum of the TARDIS let him know that she was still here. The TARDIS was only happy when Eve was here.

The Doctor heard bathwater running, and closed his eyes, glad. She was still here. He had a chance after all. And he'd make it count.

+++

One hours and ten minutes earlier...

Eve was in her old room, sleeping. Dreaming.

She was in an allyway, wandering. She turned, about to ask someone where she was, when she saw Rose. Rose didn't see her, however, which was obvious. She walked away, in the opposite direction, and disappeared.

Eve sat up, gasping. "What..." She shook her head, and sat up. Pulling the covers off, the stood up, and gathered some things for a bath.

Once she was inside the bathroom, she began running the water, still thinking about her dream. She wondered what it could mean....

+++

Donna walked inside the TARDIS.

"Here it is, the TARDIS," the Doctor said. "bigger inside than it is on the outside--"

"I know that bit. It wouldn't kill you to turn th heat up, though."

The Doctor rolled his eyes thinking how irritated Eve would be if he actually did that, not to mention that he liked it cooler anyway.

"So," the Doctor said, "whole wide universe... where d'you wanna go?"

Donna smiled. "Oh, I know exactly the place."

+++

"Donna," her granddad shouted, "it's the flyin' blue box!" He looked through his telescope, saw them both waving from inside the TARDIS, which was flying high in the sky, door wide open, and said, "Donna? That's her... that's him! Eeeeiiiaaa! Dadadada..." He said, as he started dancing, "Go on girl, go on, get out there!"

+++

Donna closed the door, and smiled. "That made his year," she grinned. Then she looked at the Doctor sewriously. "Thank you," she said.

"Ah... it's nothing."

"No, I mean it. Really. Thanks."

He nodded, and smiled.

Suddenly footsetps were heard, and both turned to see Eve standing in the doorway, in a lacey white nightgown and a black kimino-robe. "I've been thinking, and I'm sorry. Can we just start over? We don't need anything fancy for a honeymoon, as long as we're together. Because I love---" She turned noticing that the Doctor had been staring at her, but now his eyes had moved to somewhere else.

The Doctor's and Donna's jaws dropped, but for entirely different reasons.

Eve turned, and saw Donna. "---Donna?"

The Doctor scratched his ear nervously, and said, "Donna, meet my mate."

Author's Comments

Okay, so it's really just the highlights, and you'd definately have to have seen the episode to follow what's going on (I think), but I'm super busy right now (I'm recording an album later this month). If it's too confusing, I'm really sorry. I'll try to work on that. Okay?

Other than that, I don't own Doctor Who, RTD, BBC, and SCIFI do, however I DO own Eve.

Eve married the Doctor sometime before the episode "Blink", which is pretty much all you need to know for now. =) Oh, and my cat Mozart is mention briefly. i love to add him into things... he even weasles into my Buffy fanfics sometimes. =^.^=
